Cantor Jenni Asher is a multi-talented musician and singer who is passionate about bringing people together through music and looks forward to shepherding Hamakom into its next chapter of communal song and prayer.

 

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Violin Performance from the Royal Academy of Music in London and a Master’s Degree from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in Music Leadership. She is currently a cantorial student at the Academy for Jewish Religion California.

 

She is well-known within the Los Angeles Jewish community, having contributed her talents to services at Valley Beth Shalom, Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills, and Temple Ramat Zion. She led High Holy Day choirs at Temple Beth Am from 2016-2018 and served as the Cantorial Intern at Temple Israel of Hollywood from 2022-2023.

 

Jenni is a multi-instrumentalist (violin, viola, erhu, cello, piano, voice) noted for her free improvisation and collaborative compositions in many genres including classical, new age, contemporary Jewish, folk, jazz, and soul. Her third album of compositions, “Yaladati,” was released in August 2021.

 

She's never happier than when collaborating, especially improvisation with fellow musicians. Some of her more memorable performances took place at the Wilshire Ebell, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, and Barnum Hall in Santa Monica. During 2015 she was the Pasadena Century Books Artist-In-Residence. Her freelance experience has been with both orchestra and small ensembles such as the Dream Orchestra, LA Musicians Collective, Pacific Opera Project, and YMF Debut Orchestra. In addition, she has had the pleasure of performing overseas in London at the Royal Albert Hall as a London Vocal Project, in the orchestra and the choir, and at Westminster Abbey accompanying the Campkin Singers.

 

Jenni Asher lives in the San Fernando Valley, raising her two young children with her husband, Aaron.
