7th Graders and their families get to be a part of an exciting and innovative program. We partner with Moving Traditions, an organization nationally renowned for their work with Jewish teens, to bring a to create a year¬ long class that helps prepare our families for their upcoming B’nai Mitvah.
With a field-tested curriculum designed by rabbis, social workers, and psychologists, the program applies Moving Traditions’ unique informal education model to the social realities of seventh graders and their parents. It focuses on some of the key questions that permeate a 7th grader’s life:
What does it mean to become a teen?
How do I navigate being the center of attention?
What are the obligations of hosts and guests?
How is parenting a teen different then parenting a child?
The program includes interactive group games, relevant Jewish text study, critical thinking about gender norms and popular culture, and reflections on personal ethical decisions. When they are done with their classes, our 7th graders are not just ready for their B’nai Mitzvah. They are ready for anything the teen years might throw at them.
