Sisterhood of HAMAKOM
Sisterhood of Hamakom is a diverse group of women who join together in friendship and collaboration to design programs that support the social, spiritual, and educational needs of the women of the synagogue, conservative movement and greater community through fundraising. and social action initiatives. Please join us at Hamakom on the first Wednesday of the month at our South Campus for Sisterhood meetings.
The Sisterhood is part of the Pacific Southwest Branch of the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism which provides service to thousands of women and 400 women’s groups worldwide.
Sisterhood’s common goals include connection to Jewish women of all generations, an active commitment to our synagogue and our children, and fiscal and active contribution to the greater Jewish and non-Jewish community at large. You do not have to be a member of Hamakom to be a member of Sisterhood.
Among the many activities sponsored by Sisterhood:
♦ Educational, holiday and interactive social programs and activities designed to enlighten, enrich, and create community.
♦ A vibrant book club that meets every other month.
♦ Snack sales to the children of the religious school.
♦ Granting camperships (scholarships) to our youth to attend Jewish summer camps, Jewish Youth Network, summer experiences and Israel summer programs.
♦ Operating the Hamakom Judaica Shop, a unique and beautiful boutique, offering a place to purchase gift items for any simcha or special occasion.
♦ Offers the sale of Tribute cards for lifecycle events
♦ Social action programs that support organizations in our community that serve women, the homeless and families in need (LA Family Housing, SOVA, Newborns In Need, Jewish Family Service: Project Hope). Sisterhood also supports the programs that the synagogue organizes (Mitzvah Day, P&J sandwiches, etc.)
♦ Raises money for "Torah Fund", which supports the next generation of rabbis and cantors coming out of the five seminaries of the Conservative/Masorti movement: Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles, Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, Schechter Institute of Jewish Studies in Israel, Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano in Argentina, and Zacharias Frankel College in Germany.
Please join us and experience our enjoyable, welcoming, and rewarding community of Jewish women. Sisterhood activities usually occur on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 7 pm. Annual dues are $40 for Hamakom members and $52 for non-members.
